Harmonic Resonance

In a world where all conflict is resolved through music, you play as Kanade, a girl transported to this magical world of music. You must face the dangers of this new land as you try to find your way home, and confront your past and learn what it truly means to play music.

This was a personal project where I wanted to combine my two passions, classic JRPGs, and music. I wanted to create a unique experience where the player can feel as though they are controlling the music as it ebbs and flows within the throes of battle. This version of the game combines two classic styles of games, Turn-Based RPGs and Rhythm games.

I had a lot of trouble building a functioning Turn-Based system within Unity. On paper, turn-based systems sound like they would be easier to implement but to actually write the script to properly function is a whole different beast. Simply having three different actions and ensuring the game keeps track of each character's turn was a fun but difficult process.

Though this version is complete, I do believe there is still much more room for improvement. The final vision of this game will have dynamic songs play in each battle that will change in accordance to the pace of the battle, and for the player to truly feel the emotions of the characters through their songs.
